Master. V.D (Patient Ref. No. S-4685), a three year old male child was brought to the clinic by his parents in the year 2002. He had been diagnosed as an autistic child. His parents reported that he had restricted interaction with the people around him. He could not understand simple commands and he had poor eye contact with others. He would not have any interest in playing games and did not even mingle much with other kids. In general he had very restricted interaction with others around him. He had great difficulty in adjusting to strange atmosphere and had aversion to any strange place except temples. He would recognize the hospital atmosphere immediately and would fear the same. His parents also reported that he had no reaction to pain, falling down, etc previously but recently he had started showing some reaction to painful stimuli. He would not allow strangers to touch him at all. His parents had got him admission in the school but he felt sick immediately after and kept getting fever so they stopped sending him there. He was very sensitive to dirt and would ask for it to be cleaned up whenever he would see dirt around. He feared strange places and people, doctors and clinics.

He was born by caesarian section and was the first child in the family. His mother had lot of stress during the pregnancy. His grandmother (who had Obsessive compulsive neurosis) would not allow his mother to see TV or read news or move out of the house. His mother had lot of restrictions on foods as well and she would end up feeling as if she was in a tunnel waiting for it to be finished. His mother would feel intensely angry but she would not be able to express it, she would not even be able to talk about this with anyone. Her anger would be intense with clenching of teeth and fists but she had the tendency to suppress it completely.

His appetite was average and he was fond of sweets, salted foods, milk, curd and chicken. He disliked spicy food and sour things. He would sleep on his abdomen. His parents reported that he had very less sleep for the first three months of his life and he barely sleep at all. Gradually this complaint reduced and his sleep improved over a period of time. He would be comfortable in the warm atmosphere and would like to be covered up warmly.

He had suffered from recurrent loose motions in the past along with episodes of mucus colitis. He also had viral infection and malaria for 8 times in the past. His maternal grandmother had obsessive compulsive neurosis and paternal grandmother was schizophrenic. His paternal aunt also had obsessive compulsive neurosis with hypothyroidism. His grandfather was a diabetic.

Based on the above history the patient was prescribed Carcinosin in the 200th potency and later in ascending potencies. His parents reported that after starting the treatment he had become more friendly with the people around him and would be more responsive to what he was told. He had started speaking some words and would make efforts to speak more. His restlessness had increased initially after beginning the treatment. He would now understand simple commands better than before. He had become more interactive with kids of his age and would play more meaningful games now. At the end of about 8 months of treatment he was able to recognize all alphabets. His eye contact was poor though it had improved than before. His restlessness had now come down and his actions were better coordinated. His fear of new places had significantly reduced. Overall he did very well with the treatment in many aspects.

Remark: The remedy prescribed in these cases is patient-specific i.e. it has been prescribed based on the symptoms specific to the patient at that point of time. It is advisable that the patient does not indulge in any self-medication.
